The University of Sussex was founded in 1960 and in 1961, received its Royal Charter. The University currently has more than 14 000 students (undergraduate and postgraduate) and over 2 000 employees.

ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP
The Dr John Birch Music Scholarship was founded by the University of Sussex, in memory of the late organist and music lecturer, Dr John Birch. The scholarship aims to support talented musicians to develop their skills and perform while studying at the University.
There will be 4 scholarships awarded, to the value of £800 (approximately 300,000 Nigerian Naira) for 1 year of study – the scholarship award will be paid in 2 equal installments of £400.
Students will be assessed and ranked according to how you your intend on developing your music career whilst studying at the University of Sussex.

Undergraduate, Postgraduate (taught/ research)
Please ensure that you meet these minimum entry criteria before applying:
International student/ UK or European student
Auditioned at the University of Sussex
Achieved a level of Grade 8 (or equivalent) in your chosen instrument
Received and accepted an offer from the University of Sussex to study towards a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate course (does NOT have to be studying a Music degree) OR currently registered to study at the University
You will be required to submit a personal statement along with your application form. Your personal statement must discuss how you intend on developing your music career whilst studying at the University of Sussex (maximum 500 words).

Auditions will take place at the University of Sussex on 31 May 2018
Successful candidates will be informed of the outcome on 31 May 2018
Scholarship students will receive their first installment in October 2018 and the second installment in March 2019
